Karen's fight against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia
Donation protected
Hi, our sister Karen was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukaemia.
A bit of background...
Mid August last year: Karen Started her new job.
Mid September: she started feeling unwell, very sore bones and thought her Lupus (lifelong autoimmune disease) was flaring up worse than ever.
Mid October: she felt like her body was on fire and cooking from the inside out. She presented to the RAH, where she was diagnosed with Cancer. The next day they gave her a lumbar puncture and she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, and started chemo not long after. She was not allowed to leave the hospital for 6weeks (going outside was not an option, and she was not allowed to eat fresh produce due to risk of infection). She has been in and out of hospital with many extended delays.
Karen has lost her employment and the financial strain is being felt.
Although being extremely fortunate on matching with a bone marrow donar (there are only 45,000 registered donors in Australia), Karen's health has been so depleted by the chemo, the transplant has been put on hold until her heart and lung function improves.
We are reaching out to ask for support during this terrible time.
