Karl Saint Lucy Support Fund

My name is Karl Saint Lucy. I'm the oldest child of Michael Johnson, the prime suspect in the homicide case surrounding the murder of Elizabeth Mackintosh at Covenant Theological Seminary in 1990, where he was a student pursuing an M.Div. degree and working as a work-study janitor.

A few people moved by my story have asked about my current financial situation, which is dire, and offered to set up a fundraiser to help me get back on my feet.

I was two years old at the time of the murder, and the psychological consequences of having witnessed the fallout from those events as young children have been severe for me and my siblings. I recently spoke about the circumstances of extreme abuse and neglect in which me and my siblings grew up under the domination of my father, who has never been charged with any crime, on the True Believer podcast (Episode 10 The Forgotten Children) ; and I've previously interviewed for the Tears of Eden podcast, and written an essay about my complicated relationship with my mother on the Tears of Eden blog.

For 24 years, I've begged and screamed to administrators at Covenant Theological Seminary and leaders in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) to take action to correct the injustice that surrounds Elizabeth's murder. I learned about the murder when I was 12, when the community around the church where my dad was a pastor in South Dakota turned on us violently after learning about the rumors of his involvement in Elizabeth's murder from an article published in 2000 by the Edinburgh Daily Record.

The seminary has repeatedly refused to offer any sort of restitution for the part they played in knowingly abandoning me and my siblings to a life of misery and suffering at the hands of my father's narcissistic abuse, to say nothing of the fact that they refuse to participate in the True Believer podcast's investigation of the murder.

Justice for Elizabeth Mackintosh includes justice for those of us who were harmed by the seminary's willful neglect and mishandling of the murder, and the PCA's continual refusal to do the right thing for me and my family has been disheartening and frustrating, to say the least.

I wrote and orchestrated the songs for, and co-produced, a feature film that came out in 2023, but most of my compensation will come only when the film has paid back its recoupment, which may not be until the end of this year at the earliest. Following my work on the film, I've been burnt out; suffering from chronic pain, panic attacks, prediabetes, and high blood pleasure; and I've been unable to secure steady work. Your generosity will allow me to plan for and imagine a future for myself instead of just barely getting by day-to-day.

Thank you in advance!
