To my dearest friends!
Instead of flowers or presents for my birthday this year I am asking you all for something really special.
I sit on the committee of the Child Welfare Political Action Committee . This is a not-for-profit organization that helps improve the lives and futures of those in the foster care system. They are up to big work in this world by advocating for real long-term change at the government level for kids in foster care.
Several years ago I heard Jane Kovarikova , the founder of this organization on a CBC radio program. At the time I was deep into my investigative podcast on Finding Shelley Desrochers and trying to understand how girls wind up in trafficking situations. As I listened to Jane’s interview I understood how foster care can often be a direct link to trafficking for these young people. I reached out to Jane to learn more about what she was doing. Supporting this group and their work has since become one of my biggest passions!

One of the ways I spend my precious time right now is I work with some of these children and it breaks my heart to see how they have been let down & judged by government and society. No child deserves this.
Jane and her team are committed to advocating and working to fix this broken system and create a world within the system where these kids see a future! Where they can thrive and have hope.
As you know my health isn’t the best but it also helps me be crystal clear on where I want to put my time and make an impact. My goal is to help them raise funds & awareness. My hope is that I can play a part in setting them up so they have the funds to spread their message, raise awareness and change the lives of the 60,000 plus kids in the system. These children need and deserve a system where they can experience love, compassion, kindness. They deserve ‘homes’ that foster their dreams and goals. Like your child and mine…these children are the future. In this current system they don’t see a future for themselves.
And so my big ask is please come to my party with an open heart to learn and consider donating to Child Welfare PAC.

And lastly I would love to see a statue of Jane put right in the middle of Parliament Hill…godmother to all these kids!!
