Karla Matson's Funeral and Memorial Services

As many have heard, my Mom, Karla Matson, passed away yesterday. My siblings and I have spent the last 24 hours in shock and disbelief. We spent this morning with the funeral home staff talking about our options. We gathered her belongings and have moved them to our homes. We are going through her things and feel such a deep sorrow and loss. We are currently trying to piece together how we're going to get my Mom's last wishes taken care of.

Many of you know, my Mom's late husband, Jeff Matson, was her biggest light and love of her life. If you knew my Mom, you knew Jeff Matson. She talked about him all the time and spoke of him so highly and lovingly. Her last wish was to be buried next to him in Cameron, Mo. That was where they wanted to build their future house, which I am ever determined to still make happen in this lifetime.

The cost of getting her there is not cheap. We have all been left with some gut-wrenching decisions to contemplate and make. We want to honor her in every way possible. Some things we will have to do without, but the main thing is that she be buried next to her forever sweetheart, eternal companion and husband, and the father/stepfather of her 7 children.

She wasn't ready to go. She was enduring a lot of physical and spiritual pain during her last few months here. Something she always held on to was a hope that her pain and suffering would teach her the things she needed to be able to alleviate the pain and suffering of others. She believed it was for our benefit and that it was so useful in gaining wisdom about ourselves and what we're capable of doing, and being. She was a mother to so many, and she was loved by many more. We really thought we had more time with her, and I know she thought so too.
