Karly Troutt’s Medical Journey: 4th Surgery

Donation protected

To say that these past couple of years have been
easy for the Flickinger family would be an
understatement. It seems like we are having to do a GoFundMe every year to help out one of our
family members, which is NOT what we want to
do. Yet, as I write this, I am overwhelmed and
humbled by the amount of love and support we
have seen through GoFundMe, not only for us
during Lannie’s accident, but for our niece Victoria Binnie’s horrible diagnosis. But, here we are once
again sitting at a computer writing a GoFundMe
for someone we love dearly, our daughter Karly
Troutt (Flickinger).

Some of you have been following her medical
journey and know the numerous doctor’s visits,
three surgeries, and various exams, blood panels,
and other medical procedures she has had to endure this year. Karly had to stop working before her
vascular surgery in June, and since then she has
not been able to work full-time. Not only was she
recovering, but she has also had eight doctor’s
appointments at Stanford post-operation because her endometriosis has returned and has caused
even more problems internally. There isn’t an
employer who is willing to work around the
numerous visits she has to make to Stanford. Karly and her husband Roy have been able to cover the
expenses of the last six plus months, which in total is about $16,200 (after insurance paid their
portion). This includes the gas, hotels, and doctor
fees that are not covered by insurance. Karly has
also been on hormones which cost $300 every
four weeks.

Right now, Karly is scheduled for surgery on
November 25, 2019. She has an enlarged uterus
which is covered in cysts and her endometriosis is back and worse than before. This next surgery, she will be opened up again (it will not be orthoscopic), and the doctor will be biopsying all of the cysts to
see if they are cancerous, and the doctor will be
determining if her endometriosis can be removed or if he will need to do a full hysterectomy. Karly
will only know what the outcome of the surgery is after the surgery, which is very scary. This was not a planned surgery for Karly, and last week when
she got the news, devastated doesn’t even begin to explain how she felt. She feels defeated. She feels hopeless that her medical journey is never going to end. She just wants to be healthy and go on being a mom, wife, and contributor to her family.

This next surgery will be covered by insurance,
mostly. However the agreement between Stanford Hospital and her insurance is that any assistant
surgeon fees are paid by the patient. She has had
to pay $2,500 dollars before surgery twice due to
this agreement because an assistant surgeon was needed. On November 25th, she will also have to
pay this fee again due to the needs of an additional surgeon. Her husband will have to take more time off work to take her up there and the cost of gas
and hotels has been a burden for them. They have made 19 trips to Stanford since April. As her
parents, we wish we could cover the cost and make it all go away, but we can’t. It is beyond humbling to reach out to our family and friends again to help us support our daughter, but our pride is not greater
than our love for her. If there is anyway you can
help make this fourth surgery for Karly any less of a burden through your kindness and generosity,
we would be eternally grateful. We know she is
going to come out the other side eventually
because we believe God is faithful, but at the same time, we do not want to see our child financially
burdened any longer. We thank you in advance for all the prayers, the loving and kind messages that
have come her way, and any financial help you can offer.

Sincerely-

Melissa & Lannie Flickinger
