Emergency surgery for Loki
Donation protected
Our sweet rat terrier Loki suffered a perineal hernia - a condition caused by weakened muscles around the pelvic floor. This condition is dangerous, uncomfortable and can be painful for the dog. You can see in several photos the hernia on Loki - it's quite large and sticks out from his behind on his right side.
We are in a financial situation that makes it difficult for us to afford this surgery unfortunately. We have a Care Credit card (a line of credit designed to help specifically in these situations) but it's essentially maxed out at this point because we lost two beloved cats in the last 16 months and our dachshund suffered from IVDD and required treatments to regain the use of his legs.
We took Loki for a pre-surgical consult to find how much this procedure will cost and we found out at that time that unfortunately, his bladder is inside the hernia. This is very dangerous and can turn into a lifethreatening situation without warning if his bladder becomes "strangulated". It is imperative we are able to get him surgery as soon as possible. Time is truly of the essence here. As the surgeon only does surgery two days a week, we have few opportunities in the next few weeks to set this up.
Because this is such a complicated surgery that involves a lot of nerves and organs, it's very expensive. I know that some people would not consider this procedure for their dog but he is our baby. He's part of our family and I know he has happy and healthy years left with us if we can just get him help.
We have sought out financial help from local charities and organizations with no luck (most of them are either low or out of funds or we simply don't qualify with the type of procedure needed). And none of the vets who are capable of doing this procedure in our area are willing to do a payment plan.
The vet gave us a low estimate and high estimate - giving us prices for both the "best case scenario" - if everything goes perfectly - and the worst case scenario where Loki needs extra recovery or there are further complications. I have chosen a funding goal in between those two amounts, and also considered the tax and GoFundMe fees.
There are photos of our sweet Loki, as well as his hernia (I apologize if this makes anyone squeamish), as well as the estimate we received for the procedure. Please note that the only thing blacked out is our personal information.
Any help would be so appreciated - we love him so dearly. If you can't help financially, we understand! If you could pass this on to others though, that would mean the world to us - the more people we reach, the better chance we have of raising the money we need for this procedure. Please help us save his life.
Thank you for your time! Loki thanks you too!
