Karyn Czar

Beloved longtime local radio reporter and actress Karyn Czar was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer that affects blood and bone marrow production. Karyn is currently undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy and faces the likelihood of a bone marrow transplant, as well. There is no cure for this disease.

Karyn has selflessly contributed so much to our community and gone out of her way to put others’ needs first, as her strong faith and love for humanity guides her. From giving the coat off her back to random strangers to volunteering countless hours helping local theater and community events, Karyn is the embodiment of cheerful service. She is the one who shows up at our darkest hour, offering a hug and helping hand when we need it most. She is often the biggest cheerleader some of us will ever have.

Karyn has worked so hard, especially with the award-winning work she did during the last few turbulent years covering the protests in Louisville and Lexington, and attending press conferences in person at the Capitol. When a friend said they were overwhelmed with COVID news, Karyn began compiling and posting a detailed news report each morning on her social media in addition to her reporting on air, something that kept many people informed and entertained during a very dark and scary time.

We are a small group of friends who have gotten together to try to help cushion the blow of medical and living expenses she will incur during this arduous battle with cancer. We invite anyone who knows Karyn personally or just has enjoyed hearing her voice every morning on WUKY to donate. If we can help her focus on healing and not worry about the mounting bills or ability to take time to recuperate, it would be a tiny repayment of all the love and kindness she has put into this community. The donations raised will be held in a trust administered by an attorney for her benefit.
