Kate Tremills Support Fund

My name is Michelle Piccione-Tremills; I am sister-in-law to Kathryn Tremills. As you know, Kate's family has been assailed with the recent and unexpected diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer earlier this month (March 2022).

 

Like so many of us, Kate and her husband Giles (Tomkins) have suffered a blow over the past two years. As musicians, their livelihoods have taken a massive hit--with restrictions limiting their ability to work and perform.

 

Kate's work [teaching and performing] has changed drastically; and as an opera singer, Giles has been prevented from working almost entirely up until recently. Giles' first performance contract in nearly two years, for the production Così fan Tutte, took him away from his family to Alberta for two months. Unfortunately, Kate's diagnosis fell during rehearsals, and Giles was forced to choose between fulfilling this contract (providing for his family) and being by his wife's side during this difficult time. As a devoted husband, he returned home to Toronto to be with Kate and their seven-year-old son Ben.

 

As part of her treatment and healing plan, Kate will undergo necessary and complex surgery at Princess Margaret Hospital and chemotherapy. We are anticipating that both Kate and Giles will be unable to work during treatment and recovery, and as of March 8th Kate has taken a leave from work at U of T due to extreme fatigue and discomfort. Kate is being looked after by an Oncology team, and updates on her journey will be diligently provided to family and friends via the CaringBridge  site set up for her.

This fund has been created to provide a place for much-needed support to Kate's family during this incredibly challenging time.

 

All funds raised will be given directly to the Tremills-Tomkins family to help with living expenses, integrative therapies, and unexpected expenses associated with medical appointments and treatments.
