Katelyn "Compton" Escott's Recovery Effort

Donation protected
On January 16/2023, Katelyn “Compton” Escott suffered a serious injury while speedflying in Kamloops. She was immediately flown to Vancouver for surgery. The impact exploded her T12 and L1 vertebrae and fractured the L2, leading surgeons to believe she would no longer have use of the lower half of her body. She underwent a successful ten-hour surgery to remove the fragments of her spine from the protective casing around her spinal cord. The lead surgeon described the severity by giving the statistic of 99 out of 100 people would be paralyzed from this injury. Currently, she has full use of her right leg, however, her left leg and pelvic functions will need some work.

Progress has been consistently positive in the last week; some sensations have returned to her left leg, she can raise her foot, bend her knee, sit up, move to a wheelchair on her own, stand and support her own weight but surgeons estimate it could take up to twelve months to return to "normal function".

Katelyn’s love of the outdoors is no secret. Converting van upon van to be her new home to never be away from the mountains she loves so much. Someone with such motivation with her career in rope access, wingsuiting, BASE, and spreading that passion through coaching has inspired so many people across the globe, but she needs our help now.

She has been surrounded by her incredible family from the beginning, with sky family flying in from Australia and Utah for support. There is a long road of recovery ahead, but if there is anyone tough enough to accept that challenge, it is Compton. Rehabilitation requires an intense amount of drive and support. If you are able to send a donation it would certainly help to alleviate the financial stress and help to keep the focus on what is most important - getting this force of nature back into the world she loves.
