Hi, my name is Katheryn Officer and I am from Aberdeen in Scotland. I am 18 years of age and I have danced since I was 5 years old. When I was aged 13 I started musical theatre at Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts where I met Rachel Mearns who is the principle and creator of the school. For the past couple of years she has trained me up to be the best performer I can be. She inspired me by how much she gives and offers her children of her school. From competitions to showcases, Rachel always tried her best to give the best opportunities to the children that come through her school.
I have completed my HND in musical theatre with Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts. I was on the Full-Time course for 2 years and have studied in all styles of dance including Highland and Bollywood and many more. Coming towards the end of the course I was looking for the next step in my life.
In April 2015 I went to visit my sister, brother-in-law, my niece and nephew in Perth Australia for Anzac day. During my time there I went to try out a dance class to keep up my fitness and dance technique whilst I was away.
I loved the class - so much so that I decided that I wanted to study dance in Australia.
So when I arrived back home in Aberdeen I looked in to 1 year intensive training courses in Dance in Australia. My previous research that I had done for 1 year intensive training courses in the UK showed many schools that have Full-Time courses but only in one certain style of dance and not all. I was looking for a course that could train me in all the styles of dance. After sending out many emails the perfect school replied - IKIN Dance Australia. This course provides me with Full-Time training in many different styles of dance. Not only will it continue to work on my dance technique it will also help me to improve my overall knowledge of fitness. When you graduate from the course you receive 3 certificates which are certificate IV in dance, certificate III in fitness and a certificate IV in fitness.
So I auditioned for the course and I wasn't very hopefully that I would get accepted. That night I got a email explaining that I had been 100% accepted onto the course. I was totally shocked and over the moon!
So now I have been given this massive opportunity I have to fund my way there, my living expenses, my accommodation, visa and course fees.
I have been given this amazing opportunity and I don't want to have to turn it down due to financial issues.
This is my dream. I want to become a dance teacher and inspire children just like my dance teacher - Rachel Mearns - has inspired me. I want to help the people of today improve their fitness and get dancing. Dance is such a beautiful thing and I feel that the children of the future should have the opportunities to expressive themselves through dance.
I hope that after reading this you will help me achieve my goal and help me get to Australia so I can get the best training that I possibly can to become a better teacher.
