Kathie Walters Memorial Charity

Donation protected
Greetings. This is the donation page to gather funds for two of Kathie Walters favorite organizations.  It is the family's wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be made here to be redistributed equally.

Kathie  loved to visit the Jensen Botanical Garden near her home in Carmichael, CA.  The 3 1/2 Acre garden was founded in 1958 by Charles C. Jensen, after his retirement as a produce buyer. The garden became the property of the Carmichael Recreation and Park District in 1976. One of the jewels of Carmichael, it has many varieties of Magnolias and Dogwoods, Japanese Maples and thousands of Tulips. A special feature of the garden is a pathway for the blind.  Visually impaired persons, and those with physical challenges, are able to enjoy the path by feeling the different textures and experiencing the unique fragrances of the various plants placed here.
By supporting this beautiful garden, the flowers that honor Kathie's life will last for generations, and can be visited anytime by those who knew her.

Kathie was an avid lover of animals, and always cared deeply for the pets that blessed her life. She had a history of making charitable donations to the the local SPCA, and we are sure that she would be touched to have donations made to this meaningful organization in her name.

Since 1894, the SPCA has worked to reduce pet overpopulation through affordable spay/neuter services, to promote the humane treatment of animals through education and outreach, and to assist pet owners through a variety of programs and services designed to keep pets and their families together for life.  Their mission is to foster a loving and compassionate community for animals and people by providing assistance, creating lifelong relationships, and saving lives.

The family had a difficult time deciding on which charity to give to in lieu of flowers, and have chosen to use this GoFundMe site to ensure that these two noble organizations receive equal support from the donations that people who knew Kathie may choose to make in lieu of flowers.

Absolutely all of the funds (minus negligible website maintenance fees) will be given to these two organizations.  Funds will not be used to assist in memorial costs, all of which is being handled by the family and volunteers of their church.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Some Additional Information about the Organizations:
Jensen Botanical Garden
The 3 1/2 Acre garden was founded in 1958 by Charles C. Jensen after his retirement as a produce buyer. Mr. and Mrs. Jensen moved from their home in Oakland to their new property in Carmichael. They made regular trips to Oakland to bring back truck loads of plants and trees. The property already had Oaks, Coastal Redwoods and blackberry brambles. He gradually cleared the land and began planting the many Magnolias, Azaleas, Dogwoods and Japanese Maples which were among the first plants brought from Oakland.

Hybridizing, grafting and acquiring new varieties of plants, he built a garden that caught the eye of many passersby. He especially enjoyed showing visitors around his garden and opened it to parties and weddings. After his death, a group of citizens formed the Charles C. Jensen Botanical Garden, Inc Committee to preserve the garden. Their fund raising efforts were successful and the garden became the property of the Carmichael Recreation and Park District in 1976.

Today, the District continues to work the garden in cooperation with the endless talent of the Friends of Jensen Botanical Garden. Since 2004, this volunteer group has transformed the garden into the beautiful paradise that it is today. One of the jewels of Carmichael, it has many varieties of Magnolias and Dogwoods, Japanese Maples and thousands of Tulips. Springtime is amazing.

The Jensen Botanical Garden is located at 8520 Fair Oaks Boulevard, Carmichael, CA 95608, and is open from 8am to dusk (Weather permitting).

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(SPCA)
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world. The organization was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and must be protected under the law. Headquartered in New York City, the ASPCA maintains a strong local presence, and with programs that extend our anti-cruelty mission across the country, they are recognized as a national animal welfare organization. It is a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, and is proud to boast more than 1 million supporters across the country.

As the first humane organization to be granted legal authority to investigate and make arrests for crimes against animals, they are wholly dedicated to fulfilling the ASPCA mission through nonviolent approaches. Their organization provides local and national leadership in three key areas: caring for pet parents and pets, providing positive outcomes for at-risk animals and serving victims of animal cruelty.
