Update on Kathleen 2/14/24…
This evening around 9:30 pm Kathleen went to be with the Lord. She is now walking the golden streets of heaven. She was loved by many and she will be greatly missed. The family wants to thank each and every one of you that has sent prayers and donations along the way while she was fighting this terrible disease. She is in no more pain and having a blast up in heaven. God bless ❤️
Update on Kathleen 2/6/24…
Wish I had something good to report . The drug that we were hoping would work to kill her immune system and reboot it did not work. Her immune system is so strong that the drug did no good. She has so many clots and fluid building from her abdomen down that she can no longer walk. The clots are now starting to get into her vessels so there is a risk of them going to her vital organs. The team of doctors are discussing a more aggressive approach with chemo and trying to introduce blood thinners back into the mix. We are not sure how this is going to go because her platelet count is still really low but there may not be any other choice because they have to get the clots broke up somehow. I will update with more information as I get it. Thank you so much to everyone that has donated, for the phone calls, and for the visits. It really means a lot but most of all thank you for the prayers. Everyone please continue to pray!

Still no good news as of yet. They have still been doing transfusions but nothing is working so far. Her platelet counts will go up and then come back down. Now they are trying other procedures that are experimental. She has a team of 24 doctors assigned to her. They are going to try a new drug that takes about a week to make. Hopefully they can kill this aweful disease somehow so she can start getting better. She is in a lot of pain and her legs are so swollen from all the clots that it hurts her to bed them. Everyone please continue to pray for her and the doctors. We know this is all in Gods hands

I wish I had good news but I do not. The solution to this terrible disease is blood thinners. The kidney bleed has stopped but the problem now is that the doctors cannot get her platelet count back up in order to get her back on blood thinners. They have been doing transfusions for the past 3 days but her blood is still attacking the blood they are giving her and her platelet count is still dropping. Her platelet count needs to be at least 50 in order to get back on blood thinners and hers is at 15. They are doing two more days of transfusions but after that it is uncertain what the next step will be. There is a team of blood specialists working around the clock trying to figure out how to get her better. They said there has only ever been two cases in the world like this. Please continue to pray please
Hi, my name is Justin and I started this fundraiser for my step mother Kathleen Childress. Kathleen was transported to Wesley Long Hospital right after Christmas with abdominal pains. After weeks in the hospital, all the doctors could figure out was that she had a bleed on her kidney and a clot in her lung. They took her off of blood thinners because of the bleed but then she started getting clots all over her body. After 3 weeks or so there with multiple visits to intensive care, they finally were able to get her transferred to Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem on January 14th. They have been running tons of tests at Baptist and so far they have figured out that she has Lupus Inhibitor and Factor 5 which are extremely rare blood diseases. Basically her blood thinks everything is bad and is fighting off and clotting every bit of blood that they give her. Right now doctors are trying to figure out the best way to beat this. Please pray her for and the doctors for healing.
With all that going on, neither my dad Jay or Kathleen have been able to work which means the bills have started piling up. She is very sick and my Dad does not want to leave her side. No one ever wants to ask for hand outs but sometimes I think there comes a time where someone just needs a little help to stay on their feet. If you can see it in your heart to help out a family in need right now it would be greatly appreciated. God Bless ❤️
