THE RUSCHE'S COULD USE YOUR HELP.
My sister Kathleen and her family were recently stuck by tragedy on June 22nd. Many of you know the Rusche Family, Scott, Kathleen and their son's Tom & David. They were living a happy and peaceful life in Coeur D' Alene, Idaho when Kathleen was unexpectedly diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma Brain Tumor. Their lives were completely changed in a split second.
Twelve hours later Kathleen was in surgery. They removed as much of the tumor as they possible could without damaging her speech, sight or motor skill abilities.
We decided to bring her to UC San Francisco so she could participate in a clinical trial in addition to traditional treatment. We met with the Neuro-Oncology team and put a plan in place. Twenty-four hours later she started leaking spinal fluid through the back of her scalp.
She needed a second brain surgery to close the hole in the Dura. The surgery went well but the recovery has been long and painful. Kathleen then found out that because of the leak she had an infection in her spinal fluid. She would need to be on IV Antibiotics for 6 weeks to 1 year. Unfortunately she cannot participate in clinical trials with an active infection. She was heart broken.
We headed back to her home in Idaho to start traditional treatment (Chemo & Radiation). They will start with radiation the week of August 5th. They may give her a low dose of the chemotherapy. Recommended treatment is Chemo. and Radiation at the same time but chemo lowers your immune system and with her infection they need to tread lightly.
Scott, Kathleen's husband is now her full-time care taker. All of this has put a great deal of emotional & financial pressure on them.
We are asking for financial donations to help them through this ordeal. They need to be 100% focused on Kathleen's battle and recovery.
She is an extremely strong woman and we want all of her energy to go into kicking this cancer butt!
