Kathmandu Flood Loss and Damage
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Carolyn, and I'm fundraising to help victims of the devastating flood experienced in Kathmandu, Nepal, over September 26, 27, and 28.
Days of heavy monsoon rains resulted in many areas of the city being underwater or covered in thick mud, caused by major rivers swelling far above danger levels. In hard-hit Lalitpur, south of Kathmandu, where many of my friends live, the Nepal Armed Police Force had to use zip lines to traverse flooded rivers, while elsewhere rescue teams dug with their bare hands to free residents buried under mud and rubble, or used boats and helicopters to reach people stranded on rooftops. At least 192 people have been killed and 96 injured since Friday, while more than 3,700 people have been rescued. On Sunday, the rains eased in several areas allowing a major clean-up operation to begin. However, Kathmandu remains cut off with downed power lines and three highways into the city blocked by landslides.
This is my friend's room (home). She was rescued by boat from the rooftop of her building by the Armed Police. She has lost everything.
Please donate and help to rebuild lives. All funds raised will be used for clean up, home repairs, and to replace lost belongings. Thank you.
