Kathryn Breast Cancer Treatment

“Have you ever met someone who has amazing amounts of sheer strength and courage? One of my coworkers and friends exactly meets that description. Kathryn Miller is a portland native with a degree in biochemistry and child development who has dedicated her life to helping other people.
On Thanksgiving, Kathryn was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. It is in stage two. Cancer runs in her family and nearly all of the women in her family have fought this type of cancer. She is undergoing a double breast mastectomy in the beginning of January and then a hysterectomy in March. She is taking time unpaid leave from work to have these surgeries, and needs money for medical expenses, food, and living expenses while she recovers.
Kathryn Miller works at Albertina Kerr Subacute. Albertina Kerr Subacute is a residential treatment facility for children with mental and emotional challenges. She works with kids who have attempted suicide and have behavioral issues in the home. She helps them with learning coping skills and social skills so they can be safer in the community. Kerr provides her some medical insurance but not enough medical insurance to handle all the bills in her life. She also does not qualify for disability through Kerr because she got diagnosed with this cancer a month before she would have qualified for short term disability benefits.
Besides working at Kerr full time she has a part time job doing billing at an Alcohol Treatment center. Kathryn devotes all her time and energy to helping people but now she needs some help. Please donate anything you can to help her get through this battle. Any donation no matter how big or small will be appreciated.” Piper Riley
-Update I finished Chemo in April, in the clear with relatively good odds of having beat it. Since I have the BrCa gene they also gave me relatively good odds of getting ovarian cancer, about 50%. If they remove my ovaries by age 35 they can decrease my risk by 80% but not 100% because about 10% of woman age 35 with BrCa have it already. I was going to try to put off the surgery to give my body a rest until I put it through the hormone stress off a radical hysterectomy. But after my pelvic ultrasound showed a mass, despite not cycling since April. I was forced to do it sooner and take even more time off work. I took two weeks and should have taken more. I love the work that I do but it’s hard work in a psychiatric facility for minors. It can be very hard to strike a balance between trauma care and self care. If anyone is able to help a friend in need. Being able to take recovery days would be so much easier if I had a few extra funds. Thank you always for your love and support.
