With great sadness and disbelief, Kathy Schaa passed away the evening of October 18. Read Jesse’s beautiful tribute to her below.
Jesse works hard and contributes positively to every person he meets. I don’t want Jesse to have to worry anything right now. Please give what you can to cover funeral, medical bills, and just general expenses so Jesse can have the space to grieve and be with his family and not worry about bills.
Remember that time Jesse helped you move, led an event for you, gave so many platelets he met the annual limit, encouraged you up a hill, lent you a cape, or just had a chat over coffee and a laugh? He is a giver and gives all his time to help people. He needs our help now.

It is with great sadness and tears in my eyes to share that Kathy passed away last night. I am still trying to process this as this is so unexpected. We were just planning on making the holidays and our anniversary the best this year. I had no idea I will be planning her funeral. I am completely devastated. I am who I am because of her. She showed me the joy, the beauty and the fun in the simplest most humble things. Not only did we have love but true love. Like one of my favorite lines from one of our favorite movies, “Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while.”
Kathy, I love you so much and always will.
The picture is from the Elks Prom night for our local high school students this past year. She felt good enough to go for a short time and had the time of her life. It was the only prom she went to and I am the luckiest guy to take her. Thank you Michelle Souza-Moura for this picture and for Gina Shelley for making it happen.
