Kathy Dean and Family
Kathy was first diagnosed with brain cancer in 2014 and fought a hard successful battle. Unfortunately, the tumor has regrown and with her strength and the support of friends and family, she will win this battle once again. 2020 has given many challenges, as you all know, so we are unable to provide a fund raiser individuals can physically attend. This Go Fund Me account for the Dean family in supporting medical, travel and home expenses for Kathy and Mike so they can focus on her health without the financial burden and stress. Below is Mike's latest update, and more will be provided.
Our plan forward:
The tumor has regrown and filled the cavity from the previous resection. It has not expanded and disturbed other areas of the brain, so surgery is an option again. That is good news. The challenge is that time is important because the tumor will continue to grow, so she needs to be recovered enough for surgery beforehand.
It will be the same kind, where they wake her and show her pictures as they remove tumor. Her communication has not improved to the point that she could reliably do that yet. That will be our goal, to see her words come back.
Further, she will start a chemo dose while she waits for surgery. She will use Temozolomide again, as she responded last time to it. The catch... she can't start chemo as an in-patient, she needs to be at home and have some level of independence before they can start that.
So... right now, the plan is to get her well enough to leave the hospital and start recovery at home, recover enough for chemo, and then to be recovered enough for surgery.
She is expected to be here for at least another week, but no guess how long.
I asked if there was a target date that surgery needs to happen by, she said she couldn't give a solid answer to that yet. Kathy's immediate recovery will dictate how everything goes forward. Sooner is best, of course.
At this time, radiation is not being considered, as there are better options still.
She continues to improve from this seizure, a little better each day, she's working hard. They are taking very good care of her.
