Support Mick and His Family During This Heartbreaking Time

Hi, my name is Amba, and I’m writing this from Ipswich, where I’m with my dad, Mick, and my three brothers—Alex, Jarrod, and Jason. Our family is facing the most difficult chapter of our lives, and we need your support.

My dad is one of the most caring, genuine, and selfless people you could ever meet. He’s the rock of our family, always putting others first. But life has dealt him unimaginable challenges. Recently, he was forced out of his job and into redundancy due to bullying, leaving him under immense financial and emotional strain. And just as we were trying to navigate this storm, tragedy struck.

On Christmas Day, we lost my stepmother, Kathy, a beautiful, loving woman who had been a part of our lives for decades. For months, Kathy had been unwell, battling chronic pain that left her bedbound. Despite countless medical visits, the cause of her suffering remained unknown.

On Christmas morning, my brother Jarrod found her unconscious in her bed when he went to check on her for Christmas lunch. In a panic, he performed CPR for 20 minutes until the ambulance arrived. My youngest brother, Jason, stood by, witnessing this traumatic scene, unable to do anything but hope she would survive.

Kathy was rushed to Ipswich Hospital and placed into an induced coma. My husband, our two children, and I arrived the next day, holding on to hope. But on December 27, we were told the devastating truth: Kathy wasn’t coming back. Despite every effort, she couldn’t be revived and has now been placed in palliative care to slowly end her suffering. She was only 51.

The grief is overwhelming. Kathy was a kind, vibrant soul who brought so much love and warmth to our lives. She was a mother, a wife, and a stepmother who left us far too soon.

Now, my dad is not only mourning the loss of his wife of 30 years, but he’s also facing immense financial strain. He has no job, mounting bills, and the heart-wrenching possibility of selling the family home. On top of that, we’re trying to raise funds for Kathy’s funeral and an autopsy to understand the cause of her sudden decline.
