Kathy was in a car accident in December 2016 and suffered whiplash and a concussion. Since then, she has experienced the following in varying degrees: light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, memory difficulties, mental fatigue, nightmares, overwhelmed by stimuli, severe headaches, dizziness, muscle pain, difficulty with cognitive processing. PAIN, PAIN, AND MORE PAIN. She has gone through all kinds of medical and psychological testing. She has seen many different medical specialists and tried many therapies with minor improvement. She has not been able to lead anything close to an everyday life.
In 2020, she tested positive for Lyme disease. On researching Lyme, we learned that Lyme causes many symptoms that are often attributed to other illnesses/injuries. This may be the largest obstacle for her recovery. After the positive test for Lyme, we have been treating the Lyme disease through several different specialists with limited success. Now we have learned of a newer procedure that is able to rid the body of Lyme. It is called Supportive Oligonucleotide Therapy (SOT). Only a handful of facilities in the United States perform this procedure. Since Lyme is transmitted sexually, her husband Mark is also undergoing testing to see if he needs to be treated as well. We have chosen to try this procedure.
Insurance companies do not acknowledge it as a procedure that is covered since it is a more recent procedure. Therefore, we will need to pay for it out of pocket. Including the initial testing, the procedure will cost about $5,000 per person. The procedure may need to be done twice to completely remove Lyme. We will also have traveling expenses as the procedure will take place at The Genesis Center in Cummings, Georgia. We don’t have a specific date yet, but expect it to happen late December 2022 or early January. Please consider helping us with trying to get Kathy’s life back.
