Kathy was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December 2021. This is a rare and aggressive cancer with a 5 year survival rate of 5% to 10%. Fewer than 20,000 people, in the USA ,are diagnosed per year. Kathy is a mother and a grandmother with a 93 pound rescue dog- ONYX. Even with a poor diagnosis, we're praying for a miracle. Her positive attitude is helping her through chemo and radiation treatments with only fatigue and nausea as the main side effects. Daily pain meds make her extremely tired and unable to work since November 2021. Her symptoms began with jaundice, leading to many tests and stents placed in the common bile duct to drain it. This is when they discovered that the cancer mass was obstructing the duct. Chemo and radiation began until the stents became obstructed again in February. This led to severe sepsis. After 5 days , in the hospital again, she resumed her treatments. She is almost done with this course of treatments until further scans are done. The fatigue has been the worst for her. She has not been able to work since November 2021 or have more than 2 to 3 hours of energy, a day, to do errands or even talk on the phone. Kathy lives alone with her dog, onyx, who she says is the best therapy dog. He watches over her like a hawk. Her son Chris lives near and helps her out a lot with errands, hospital appointments and their dog. Kathy's youngest son, Ryan, and his wife Bree live in Oregon with her granddaughter Calliope. They are a big part of her support system with videos and FaceTime of 20 month old Calliope. This makes her day and gives her the motivation to keep fighting this aggressive cancer. Kathy has worked almost 30 years as a chef and finds it hard to be knocked down. She plans on trying to get back to work part-time, doing a much easier job, in April, if all goes well. Kathy is very humble and grateful for any help which has been offered in any way. We need your help now in prayer and any amount to help her pay for rent and utilities for the months of March and April. We would love for her to be able to remain , in her home, with Onyx, and rest easy that things will be ok until she can get back to work and fight this cancer everyday. With how rare that this disease is, there has not been a lot of research or funding to help patients like Kathy. Thankfully, her insurance is covering her health expenses so far. Our goal is to raise $2,000. Thank-you for caring, God be with you !
