Kathy Moore Skotschir's Battle Against Cancer Recurrence
Donation protected
Kathy’s story is one of unimaginable strength and heartbreaking challenges, and as her children, we’ve watched her navigate each obstacle with grace and resilience. Our mother, Kathy, is 63 years old, and though she’s been through more than any one person should have to endure, she continues to fight with every ounce of courage she has.
Recently, our mom was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. It was a shocking diagnosis. She had always been healthy, and the idea of cancer never seemed real to her. She fought fiercely, undergoing surgery and radiation, and was told that she was in remission. Our family breathed a sigh of relief — we thought the worst was behind us.
But cancer is unpredictable, and just as we were beginning to move forward, the unthinkable happened: the cancer came back. The recurrence of the cancer was devastating for our mom and for our entire family. It’s been hard to watch her face this battle again, especially knowing that this time, the financial toll would be even greater.
Since the love of her life passed away several years ago, our mom has been living alone, trying to manage the best she can, working full-time. The news of the cancer returning hit her like a ton of bricks. Not only did she now again face the daunting task of fighting a life-threatening disease, but she also had to navigate the challenges of healthcare costs. Her new treatment with extensive radiation and now chemotherapy can be expensive as well as physically exhausting. Our mom will not be able to work during her treatments. With her savings already depleted from her previous fight with cancer, hospital bills piling up, and no steady paycheck coming in, she is faced with difficult decisions.
As her children, we’ve been doing everything we can to help, but we know that it’s not enough. That’s why we’ve decided to create a GoFundMe campaign to help our mom get through this difficult time. Our mom has always been the one who took care of us, giving us everything she had even when times were tough. Now, it’s our turn to try and take care of her.
We’re reaching out to family, friends, and even strangers, asking for your support. The funds raised will help our mom pay for the mounting medical expenses, prescriptions, and ongoing treatment. It will also help cover basic living expenses, as she can’t work while going through this second round of radiation with chemotherapy. No amount is too small, and every donation makes a huge difference.
More than the financial help, we know that the emotional support will mean the world to our mom. She’s always been independent and proud, but this illness has shown her just how important it is to lean on others when the burden becomes too much to carry alone.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for taking the time to read our mom’s story. We know that, with your help, she can overcome this challenge, just as she’s done so many times before.
With gratitude and hope,
Kathy’s children.
