Hello! As many of you know, our mother has been fighting a hard battle with cancer. In April of 2014, she went to the doctor with stomach pain. They found a basketball sized mass in her abdomen. She had a complete hysterectomy, and the huge mass removed. Once it came back from pathology, we heard the news that everyone dreads to hear. It was cancer. She was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma, a very rare and very aggressive form of cancer. They don't know too much about this cancer because it is so rare. She was terrified. Over the next 5 months, she received chemotherapy. At the end of the chemo, her abdomen was clear! No more cancer! We were so overjoyed! She was to follow up every 3 months for CT scans, but as of now she was cancer free!
Unfortunately, that joy didn't last long. In May of this year, she went to her usual routine appointment and they informed her that her cancer was back. It had formed 3 softball sized masses in her abdomen, and 2 small nodules in her lungs in under 6 months. We were all so scared, but she was ready to fight! She started chemo 2 days later.
After 2 weeks, she started getting a very bad pain in her stomach. We called her oncologist and he told us to rush her to the ER. We were told we got her there just in time. The cancer masses attached to her bowel, and caused holes and perforations. She was going septic. She was rushed into surgery, while we stood dazed and terrified in the waiting room. No one expected this. 2 weeks before this, life was normal. She was healthy and happy, and now she was in emergency surgery to save her life. After a 4 hour surgery, the Dr came out and said he removed the masses, and other nodules he found in there, and fixed her bowel in numerous places. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks. We were informed the chemo she was receiving was not working. This time, she would receive the strongest chemo they have to offer. She started this very strong chemo right away. She goes every 3rd week, for 3 days straight, 9 hours a day.
This chemo has most definitely taken its toll on her body. Yet still, she remains happy, hopeful, and positive. She is fighting so hard. The strength she has shown us these last 2 years is nothing short of admirable. This is where we come to you for help. As too many of you know, cancer takes its toll on its victim, and the whole family. The medical bills climb up to astronomical amounts before you even realize it. We ask our friends to please join us in this fight. Donations, prayers, well wishes, comforting words...we accept it all. Thank you so much for reading her story, and thank you so much for being such wonderful friends to our family. We appreciate you all so very much!
