Kathy's Fight Againt Cancer Fund
Donation protected
I am publishing this GoFundMe on behalf of my friend Kathy Kirtley. Kathy is one of the hardest working people I have ever known. She is also one of the most selfless. She is the mother of two, a son in middle school and daughter in college. Kathy is also responsible for her nephew who requires special care. She is a CASA advocate. She is self-employed, working successfully as a process server. For the past few years, Kathy has been the primary bread winner while her husband has been dealing with his own health issues. Her husband is a hard working man and a veteran. He has heart problems and has had several procedures.
A few weeks ago, she was diagnosed with Stage 3B Small Cell Lung Cancer, for which the 5-year survival rate is about 8 percent. Next week she starts a heavy round of chemo, as well as radiation treatment, which will last for several weeks. She has been unable to work since the beginning of this nightmare, and it is doubtful that she will return to work anytime soon. Her husband has had to take a lot of time off work to take care of her and, over the next few weeks, will have to take even more time off to take care of her and their kids.
My hope is that we can take some of the financial burden off of Kathy and her family so that they can keep the lights on, food on the table, and have the money to take care the additional medical expenses. Any contributions and/or prayers will be greatly appreciated.

(Detailed description of events: On August 16, 2016, she began having some difficulty breathing and went to the emergency room at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She had no prior symptoms. A CT-Scan revealed she had several masses in one of her lungs, and a few days later she was diagnosed with Stage 3B Small Cell Lung Cancer. She was released on August 26th. On September 1st, after experiencing more difficulty breathing and rapid heart rate, she was readmitted to Parkland Hospital. They found that a mass was severely constricting the Superior Vena Cava, a major vein that returns blood to the heart. They placed a stent in the vein to keep the vein open the following days and released her again on the September 5th. She was not a smoker and had no symptoms prior to those she experienced on August 16th. )
