Kathy's Recovery Fund

Kathy Ramsey (Patrick Ryding's spouse, and mother of their two children) was cycling home on Wednesday, August 30, when she suffered a near fatal bike accident in which she was struck by a dump truck. She was resuscitated at St. Michael's Hospital, spent a long/terrifying night in the ICU before finally being declared stable enough to undergo two life saving surgeries over the following 2 days. She remains in the ICU, though the major survival risks appear behind us. The world-class facility and medical team at St. Michael's not only saved her life, but they believe she will be able to walk again. While in many ways the result is nearly miraculous, the road ahead is long and full of unknowns. Her complete physical and mental prognosis will not be known for some time. She most certainly won’t return to work anytime soon, and we don’t know how long it will be before she can function at her previous levels. And so between employment uncertainty and the expected lengthy timelines associated with securing any insurance funding, financial unknowns compound the overarching health issues.
Kathy and her family have received much love and support over the past week. Many of you have asked how you can help. While there are certainly opportunities for physical and moral support, unfortunately in these scenarios there is not much any of us can do to help with recovery. However, anything we can do to alleviate the significant financial pressure ahead will no doubt be very helpful and greatly appreciated by the family. We have not set a specific funding goal for this campaign – we just know that significant financial impact will be inevitable, and we know many people want to help in some way. Thank you for any assistance you are able to offer.
