Katie Santos Memorial Fund

It is with a heavy heart and much humility that the Santos family is asking for your love & support after the loss of their wife, mother, and Vo - Kathleen "Katie" (Espinola) Santos who passed away after a short battle with Leukemia at MGH in Boston on February 20, 2019 with her family by her side.
Katie was a career Mom - boundless in her devotion to her family and friends. As a parishioner of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Sanford, ME, as well as the former St. Alban's in Lynn, she regularly participated and assisted with many church events and fundraisers. Katie lived her life with the mentality of paying forward the spiritual principles that we all hope to someday encompass.
Katie's love, tenderness & selflessness knew no bounds and everyone who met her couldn’t help but falling in love with her spirit. She stood as the “Neighborhood Mom” in every community in which she lived, always there to lend support to anyone in need. Her genuine warmth begot the aura of the Passive Acceptor; one of those rare souls who can truly listen with an uncritical ear while lending a shoulder to cry upon.
A passionate child advocate, especially for children with autism, she dedicated much of her life to working for and with children. After raising her sons, Joseph, Adam, & Ken, she transitioned to actively and consistently assisting them in raising her grandchildren, Alexia, Rylee, Zandros & Kenny, Jr. As well as worked diligently & daily to aid her autistic son and grandson, Adam & Zandros. This, among many other places, will be weighted heavily by the loss of Katie. Adam & Zandros have just recently moved out on their own and Katie was a constant champion for them to help manage the complex support network needed.
In the next 4 months, Katie’s oldest granddaughter is set to turn 18, attend prom & graduate high school. Although Katie fought with every ounce of her being to be physically present for these milestones; she is now a guardian angel. Katie wholeheartedly believed in the “It takes a village” concept & thought it would be a fitting theme for her granddaughter's graduation. She felt tremendous appreciation to the East Boston community for the support her granddaughter received throughout the years. In that spirit, it is our sincere hope that the “village” will assist in easing the burden of Katie’s passing so that the family can turn their focus to what matters.
We who love the Santos’ family are hoping to assist in alleviating some of financial burden. Because of the abundance of time spent in the hospital & unable to work, the family is now under a large financial weight. In addition to the mounted medical bills, as always, is the funeral cost. While tending to Katie, over the last several months, many things fell through the cracks, causing a lapse in Katie’s life insurance. While the Santos men have no question that they will honor their matriarch and bounce back, current & upcoming family events are of great concern to family and friends.
Katie’s son, Joseph has been adamant & vocal that he wants to lovingly bid farewell to his mom & turn his focus to honoring her legacy. In honoring Katie’s legacy, the Santos family is committed to future fundraisers to support children and those with special needs in her name. This was the spirit of Katie’s life & we will work to ensure her spirit lives on.
On behalf of the Santos family, in the most devastating and humble of circumstances, we have setup this GoFundMe campaign to ask for any donations whatsoever to help ensure they're able to remember and celebrate Katie’s life with a memorial and funeral. Additionally, donations will also be used to assist with medical bills & bills that accrued while the family was unable to work while at the hospital.
• This account was set in Joseph’s name but is being organized & overseen by Katie’s close friend’s: Valerie Bonomo & Savannah Rose as well as close family friends Chuck Molinari & Alyson Linda. We expect the fund team to grow and Thank you for your time and generosity.
