Support for Katie and Chris Tyner

My aunt and uncle, Katie and Chris Tyner, have been diagnosed with a total of three cancers in less than one year: Chris was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer last summer; in December, Katie was diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently had a double mastectomy; since then, Katie has also been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Both Chris' colon cancer and Katie's colorectal cancer necessitate prolonged treatments (chemotherapy for both and radiation and possibly surgery for the colorectal cancer).

As an added complication, the recession and changing economy led to the loss of the business Katie and Chris owned for 36 years; and because of their medical conditions neither Katie nor Chris can work. As such, they do not have medical insurance outside of Medicare. The hospitalizations, surgeries, and other treatments have resulted in very substantial and overwhelming medical bills.

In addition to medical expenses, Katie and Chris are struggling to find money to pay for gas (they often need to travel 60-120 miles roundtrip to get to the places where they receive medical treatment), and everyone in the family would love it if they could receive cleaning and home maintenance help while they're both so sick.

Katie and Chris have always been self-sufficient and it is quite hard for them to ask for help, but the situation has become untenable and they really do need help.
