This is a picture of my friend and fellow travel agent… Katrina Ward with her daughter Abby.  Katrina is divorced and lives on her own without financial support from others. She has continued to work during this last 7 years other than when she was off for surgeries.  She has had emotional support from friends and the people she has worked with over the years and family.

Katrina was diagnosed with heart failure in April 2011.  She had an aortic aneurism and had a heart valve replacement and has been in AFib and VTac for years.  She has endured multiple surgeries including, pacemaker, defibrillators, ablations and two weeks ago had an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) connected to her heart.  This was her third open heart surgery. Her left ventricle is destroyed and her right ventricle is still working or she would not have been eligible for the LVAD the bridge- to- transplant surgery or to even be on the transplant list. There is a long recovery period ahead.

The heart does not repair itself.  She is on the heart transplant list and I encourage everyone to be an organ donor and thanks to the boundless generosity of organ donors more lives are being saved each year.  https://www.donatelife.net

The most recent LVAD surgery looks like this…..

The LVAD has both internal and external components. The actual pump sits on or next to your heart’s left ventricle with a tube attached that routes the blood to your aorta. A cable called driveline extends from the pump, out through the skin, and connects the pump to a controller and power sources worn outside the body.

I am asking for financial assistance during a lengthy recovery and transition from CLE Clinic to Cardiac Rehab and while needing financial assistance for medical bills, Rx, transportation, home expenses there is an immediate need for LVAD vests as well.

She has 2 external battery packs and the exterior portion of the LVAD pump that are very heavy.

Here is an example of the most comfortable and versatile because the large, heavy batteries are not right under the armpit and closer to the hip and won’t press on the incisions and wires.

Katrina will have the LVAD until a suitable donor heart is available for her.

I am asking for any prayers, donations and any assistance to help Katrina through this most difficult time.

Thank you,

Christine Lambert
