Katrina Conquers Cancer
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
My name is Emily Sattler and I’m starting this gofundme for my best friend, roommate, and coworker Katrina Gallego.
Katrina is a Salve Regina 2015 Graduate and now cardiac ICU nurse at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Over the past year, she’s shown resilience on the front line working to help patients fighting covid 19. She absolutely loves her career and happens to be incredible at it too!
Unfortunately, Katrina was recently diagnosed with triple-negative, stage 3c breast cancer. This type of breast cancer is highly invasive in that it grows and spreads rapidly. Thanks to Katrina’s amazing oncology team she has a curative treatment plan. She will undergo the most aggressive chemotherapy regimen available.
This means that over the next year, she will undergo 5 months of chemotherapy, followed by radiation, a double mastectomy, radiation again, and then reconstructive surgery. During this time, Katrina would love to continue to work; however due to the physically demanding nature of her job that might not be possible.
Donations raised will allow Katrina to take the time she needs to heal without worrying financially. Donations will be allocated between her taking time off, various oncology treatments and testing, reconstruction surgery, and future fertility treatments.
Throughout this process, Katrina has remained incredibly positive. When telling people about her diagnosis, she has reassured, comforted, and, in true Katrina fashion, even made plenty of dark jokes to cheer up friends and family processing the news- telling them she truly has a pair of killer tits! She has always been focused on supporting others, but now she needs our support.
It has truly been an honor to watch her not just tolerate this but inspire those around her with her positivity.
Thank you for joining Katrina’s support team! I will be sure to post updates throughout her treatment.
