Katrina's Cancer Medical Treatment

Recently, my lovely sister, Katrina Portis was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She is a single mother of 2 amazing and very young children, ages 7 (my niece) and 12 (my nephew) . She is in the planning phase to have her lumpectomy which will be followed by 6-8 weeks of radiation therapy. My family and I are coming together to ensure that Katrina will be able to focus on her health and wellness without the stress of financial hardship. Katrina has medical insurance that will cover 80% of her treatment cost. We are seeking help with coming up with the remaining 20%.   Via research, we discovered that the total cost for her lumpectomy and radiation therapy should be anywhere between $17,000-$35,000. The 20% out of pocket coverage cost for this will be anywhere between $3,400-7,000.  We are requesting $10,000 to cover the 20% out of pocket cost as well as some of Katrina's loss of income during the time that she will be out of work. This will ensure that she can continue to finance personal and family necessities for her and her children.

A little background of Katrina:

As many of you may know, Katrina has a heart of gold! She is my older sister who I look at as a super sister/second mother. In 1999, my mom and dad were involved in a head-on collision motor vehicle accident. They were severely injured and spent a significant amount of time in the hospital (especially our mother). Katrina immediately became super woman and took on all the responsibilities of a parent at the tender age of 15.  She would ensure than the house and my sister, Desiree and I were well taken care of on a daily basis while maintaining her responsibilities as a high school student. This heroic characteristic followed her into college and post college adulthood. Til this day, she is the most family/friend oriented person I have ever met. She wouldn't think for a second to help someone! We want to return that favor to her, especially in this hard time of her life.
