My sister Katrina has Genetic Cardiomyopathy, and recently received an LVAD heart pump. She is on the list for a heart transplant. Her treatments include traveling to Boston MA, Tufts Medical Center for apts and check ins with the LVAD transplant team. Even though we don't live far from Boston, about 4-5 hours, the trips are frequent and usually include an overnight.
She has a supportive family, who has helped over the last 6 years of visiting the Tufts Medical Center, though money is tight. I went through training at the hospital to properly clean and bandage her drive line to her pump. My mom and I have been her wheels back and forth monthly and sometimes every other week to Boston.
With the current COVID times, my mom and I had to stay at the hotel while she was in surgery for her pump. It’s been tough going through this on her own, and for the family to pitching in for a room in order to be nearby.
My sister is strong willed and fighting this medical obstacle in order to be here for her family and grandchildren. They are her whole life.
We are doing the gofundme page to raise funds for travel, lodging, and food for our trips and upcoming transplant - cross your fingers!
