I am setting up a Go Fund Me account for my friend Katy Kavanagh who is 51 years old. 11 years ago Katy was working as a CT Technologist at a local hospital. She had some numbness in her legs. She went to the doctor 1 week after her 40th birthday. They did an MRI and they found a 5cm tumor in her spinal cord from C7-T3. It was an Ependymoma, a benign tumor. When the doctors removed the tumor, she was left paralyzed from the chest down.
Katy would tell you she has had many blessings and challenges in the past 11 years. Katy is a person who never complains and is extremely grateful for everything in her life. However, one of the biggest challenges she has had is transportation. Katy feels fortunate to be able to drive with hand controls. The van she has been driving is a 2003 GMC Club Van that has been modified with a wheelchair accessible lift. It is 15 years old and the lift and all it’s working parts are wearing out.
Katy has found a state funded agency who is willing to assist in the modification of a new van. However, they will not purchase the van itself and the new van must be within a certain year span (6 years). The cost of the new van will be at her own expense and I am asking you to please help her in doing so. The agency has told her to look for a van which they have approved, and she has found a 2017 Dodge Caravan SXT with VMI conversion. Her part is $24,000. This is, as you can imagine, an extraordinary amount of money for someone who lives on social security/disability. So whether you can contribute a small amount or large amount, she would be forever grateful.
