Kavan's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Kavan is the kindest, sweetest, spunkiest 11 year old boy. Tuesday, May 24 was his parents' worst nightmare. Kavan was found lying in his bed, unresponsive. Rescue brought him to Hasbro Children's Hospital, where after many tests, blood was found to be pooling around his brain. Kavan was brought into the OR, where a drain was put to relieve pressure on his brain. After more tests, it was discovered that Kavan had a ruptured brain aneurysm. He had no headaches, no head complaints at all, and unbeknownst to his family or rescue team, he was fighting for his life.

Kavan had emergency surgery on May 24 to repair the ruptured brain aneurysm. The surgery was successful!

At just 11 years old, Kavan still knows the hospital, doctors and staff as no kid should have to know them. When Kavan was just 18 months old, he was found to have Stage 4 Neuroblastoma cancer, which robbed him of his hearing and nearly took him from his family. From 2014: https://www.providencejournal.com/story/lifestyle/health-fitness/2014/07/12/20140711-4-year-old-north-smithfield-boy-beats-rare-form-of-cancer-ece/35334175007/ Now, exactly ten years later, the Bradford Family found themselves again in the Hasbro Chapel praying for their son's life. And in a twist of fate, the specialists at Hasbro agree that the brain aneurysm was completely unrelated to his cancer ten years ago and unrelated to the intensive chemotherapy he had. This ruptured brain aneurysm results from something entirely different, very rare, and just “bad luck.”

“How is Kavan doing today, five days after his aneurysm ruptured?”
Kavan is showing signs of improvement! He is able to wake up, talk, and eat a little. His mother, Erin, shared that yesterday “He wanted shrimp, bedside in Hasbro PICU. So I was hand-feeding him Whole Foods shrimp cocktail. Whatever you want, buddy!”.

While Kavan is showing positive signs, he has a long road ahead. Kavan is expected to be in the Hasbro PICU 2-3 weeks. They will not know if he has suffered any long-term damage for a few weeks. There are so many unknown variables. Kavan's parents' professions both require them to be at work in order to be paid. Every minute that Erin and Bobby spend at their son's PICU bedside is a financial loss to them. The Bradford family (all four of them!) so often volunteer their time and love to help other families in need. Please join us in helping them during their time of need. No parent should have to choose between working and being at their sick child's hospital bedside.

“I can't make a donation right now, how else can I help?” Please pray for Kavan's health and well-being. Please pray for his sister, Kailyn, who is the best big sister ever! She saved his life! And please pray for Bobby and Erin.
