Beautiful Kawehalani Carreon collapsed on her way to the doctor’s office on Wednesday, October 18. Her heart stopped and CPR was performed on her for over 20 minutes. She was taken to Eden Hospital and then transferred to Children’s Hospital in Oakland. The incredible doctors and nurses did everything they could for beautiful Kawehalani, but unfortunately the damage was was too severe and she never woke up. Preliminary tests showed that Kawehalani had undetected bone cancer that eventually led to her lungs filling with fluid and then caused her heart to stop. On Saturday, October 21, her parents Maude and George and her loving brother Ka-Anohi (KC) made the difficult decision to stop life support efforts.
Kawehalani was only 17 years old and was just 8 months away from graduating from Hayward High School with a 4.47 GPA! She was in her 4th year of the Biomedical Pathway program at Hayward High School and had recently received a full ride scholarship to a select college of her choice. KK, as she was known to her friends, was vivacious and full of energy, but she also loved her naps! She was loud, spontaneous, and always made everyone around her laugh. Did I mention that she loved her naps!? KK was a prankster and loved messing with her family and friends! Everyone that came in contact with her was touched by her spirit. Nowhere was this more evident than during her hospital stay. An amazing amount of teachers, staff and administrators from her elementary school, middle school, and high school came to support her and her family and the outpouring of love from them was overwhelming! Seeing the impact KK had on her educators lives showed you all you needed to know about the type of girl she was.
Her family and friends are devastated by the loss of such a vibrant little girl who had so much of her life to live. We are determined to keep her memory alive so that others will be touched as much as we all were by this incredibly beautiful person.
This Go-Fund-Me account has been started to support Maude, George and KC during this most difficult of time. Those that know the family may know that George is still recovering from a stroke he had in late 2021. This will allow the family the time to grieve without having to worry about how they are going to pay rent or other financial obligations. Thank you in advance for your love and support of the Carreon family.
