We have started this GoFundMe in hopes of helping Kayd Hintz and his family during this unfortunate time in their life. Kayd is a fun loving 9 year old boy, golf enthusiast, amazing son, wonderful big brother to his little sister, Skylar. The amazing things that can be said about this little boy can go on forever. In his short time, Kayd has touched so many lives and always leaves a special imprint on your heart, especially if you talk Golf with him.
Recently Kayd has been experiencing terrible headaches which prompted his mom and dad to take him to the ER on Sunday 1/17/2021. Not knowing what this could be, Kayd's mom and dad (Justin and Kelly) took Kayd to the ER, only to be given terrible news. Doctors diagnosed Kayd with a brain tumor on the left side of his Cerebellum and Kayd would need to undergo surgery to remove the tumor immediately. Since Sunday, Kayd has been at Phoenix Children's Hospital getting the best care from an amazing medical team. On 1/20/2021, Kayd underwent surgery to remove the tumor, the surgery was a success but Kayd and his family have a long road still ahead. Kayd, the strong boy that he is, did well after the surgery. On 1/21/2021, doctors provided life shattering news, Kayd was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma. Further news has revealed that the cancer is a form of a rare genetic disorder, Li-Fraumeni a genetic mutation on the Tp53 gene. With this said, doctors have determined radiation and chemotherapy will be necessary course of treatment and will add to the long road ahead for Kayd and his family.
Kayd has just finished 6 weeks of daily radiation at Mayo Hospital along with one day of chemotherapy weekly as of 4/01/2021. He has been doing great for the most part with some side effects of chemo that was done during this time. His chemotherapy treatment journey will begin May 5th 2021 following his head to spine MRI. This time will insist of aggressive chemotherapy treatment for 3 straight days at Phoenix Childrens Hospital. On the 4th day he will be administered a shot to help increase his white blood cell count followed by weekly visits at PCH.
During this time it will be crucial to avoid contact from others to avoid getting sick. He will also be watched closely for fevers and his blood counts to make sure they are where they need to be in order to avoid blood transfusions throughout this journey. This process will continue monthly for 6 months.
As anyone can imagine how devastating the news of your child being sick can be. Kayd's family will be faced with the stress of Kayd's treatment and recovery they will also be faced financial stress. We have started this GoFundMe account to ask family, friends, and strangers to help the Hintz Family (Justin, Kelly, Kayd, Skylar) and bless them with whatever you are able to, to help lessen the burden and financial stress they will encounter, so Kayd's mom, dad, sister, and family can focus their energy strictly on Kayd's health and being with him during his treatment and recovery. The money donated will go to help Kayd's family cover the cost of bills, medical expenses, and day to day expenses as this will significantly impact Kayd and his family.
