Kayla Alana's road to recovery
Donation protected
Hi, my niece Kayla Alana had a medical emergency, so we are trying to get some help with some of the expenses her parents will incur. My sister, Kristen McNamara is her mom and Charlie Alana is her dad. They will be by Kayla's side as much as possible during her time at the hospital. She suffered a severe allergic reaction from a prescribed medication on December 26th that caused internal and external burns to her body. She was taken to Sparrow Hospital and they quickly realized they were not equipped to handle her emergency, so they transferred her to UofM in Ann Arbor and is being cared for in the trauma burn unit. She is being seen by several departments but the burn team is responsible for most of her care. I have asked Kristen to summarize some of what has happened thus far. "Kayla is experiencing internal burns in her eyes, mouth, esophagus, and throughout the reproductive system. She has small burns/lesions on most areas of her body. She is experiencing nerve pain through her hands and feet. She is needing the use of a feeding tube due to the condition of her mouth and esophagus. She underwent an amniotic membrane graft on both eyes that has currently left her without her vision. This was to prevent further damage to the eyes. She has a long road ahead of her, however, the medical team at UofM believe she is capable of making a full recovery with time."
What is happening to Kayla is traumatic and painful and her parents are not leaving her side in the hopes of making her just a little more comfortable. We are asking anybody who are willing and able to please consider sending a donation to help her parents with expenses such as, lodging, travel, lost wages, and possibly additional medical bills. Sharing this fundraiser is another good way to help her.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Kayla's situation and please say a prayer for her full recovery.
