Kayla Walker Recovery

Kayla was involved in a car accident early Wednesday morning as she was traveling back to Clemson, SC after spending Easter weekend with her family in North Carolina. The day before the accident, she had gotten her oil changed, tires rotated and fixed the recall on her vehicle. The first accident occurred around 1:30 AM in Charlotte, NC. The driver who hit Kayla fled the scene. After filling out an accident report and insurance claims, the officers at the scene helped Kayla get her car back on the road. These officers told Kayla that her car was safe to drive even though her right mirror was detached and there were pieces missing from the wheel. Trusting the officers, Kayla carried on with the rest of the ride to Clemson, SC. After driving a few more hours, around 5:30 AM, her steering wheel started to shake and a loud noise was coming from her vehicle. Before she could react, the car jolted off the road, passing the rumble strips before completely losing control, leaving Kayla with no chance to correct the car. The vehicle flipped three times before hitting a tree and ejecting Kayla 50 feet through the front windshield.
Kayla was rushed to the hospital and went into immediate surgery. The doctors performed a cervical fusion in her neck. She is now recovering from a fracture/ dislocation in her neck, a fracture in her back at t-11 and t-12, broken hips, a chest contusion and loss of feeling in her left arm.
As Kayla recovers in the hospital, she is not allowed to have visitors due to Covid-19. She must heal alone, which is scary and lonely. The future is uncertain and Kayla does not know what will be her next phase of life. In a few days, she will hopefully be released from the hospital, but will be sent to further her recovery in a rehabilitation center.
As you can imagine, her medical bills are going to be very daunting. Kayla is one of the hardest working college students and pays for everything herself. She loves life and loves every person in her life, so let's show her our support and love by donating to help make her transition back to daily life as easy as possible.
It is a miracle that Kayla is still with us today, and we believe that her mother was her guardian angel during this accident. Please consider donating to this cause to help this beautiful girl! Thank you in advance!
