kayla's mental health treatment

Hi everyone,

If you know anything about me, you know that my family has been through the ringer. My little sister, and youngest of the family, has probably been hit with life the hardest. I’ve seen Kayla struggle with her mental health since we were kids. Now at 21, her childhood battles have turned into a giant struggle that is hard to watch. Kayla has always been a source of shine and laughs to those around her. A supportive friend and hard worker, it’s time that Kayla can get the support that she needs.

Since we were little, Kayla was the victim of narcissistic, emotional and psychological abuse from a close family member. She also witnessed our father nearly lose his life to septic shock and has since been part of his support system for his resulting chronic illnesses. She has also experienced other difficult family circumstances and traumatic experiences. She also already struggles with a lot of physical health issues that just makes keeping her mental health afloat harder.

As a result of this, she has dealt with major depressive episodes, manic episodes, panic attacks, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. My mother and I have spent long nights with her and trying to be there for her. After years of trying to find the right psychologist that would listen to her, she was recently diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety and depression.

Kayla is strong, but she needs specialised help. Her current therapy sessions do not cater to her particular disorders and needs. Kayla understandably wants to focus on her healing and develop coping strategies in an inpatient program.

Unfortunately, these mental health services are difficult to access and it is impossible for her and our family to afford it on our own. My family and I would greatly appreciate any donations that will help her get the treatment she needs and get her on the path to recover and healing.

Just for a little transparency this is where the funds are going:
- Option of (we are still figuring this out): 48-week group therapy program $22,560 or hospital stay program (without insurance) $21,500
- ADHD Diagnosis $1,754

Anything past our initial goal will go towards:
- private health insurance (to assist with funding/getting into programs)
- support Kayla while she does the program as she will not be able to work
- travel costs

Kayla has experienced so much heartbreak and trauma for someone so young. I would love her be able to get the help she needs.

I would also like to point out that it is has taken a lot, especially considering our issues with extended family, for Kayla to be open and willing to have this information out there. She knows that it is important so that she can live a happy and long life.

Love,
Erika
