Kaylee’s Journey: Wheelchair to Walking

Hello there! Thank you for checking out our GoFundMe page. For those of you who don't know us, I am Chris, and this GoFundMe is for my wife Kaylee. In August of 2023, Kaylee went to the ER with a headache, and came out of the hospital six weeks later in a wheelchair. It turned out that lupus attacked her spine. It severely enflamed her spinal cord, essentially shutting off all signals to her lower half.

Since returning home, Kaylee has shown exciting improvement. While she is still reliant on the wheelchair, she gets stronger and more mobile every day, and our hope is that she will make a full recovery. In the interim, however, our lives have been drastically altered. We've had to relearn how to do everything. Mundane, everyday things can be a challenge, and in a lot of cases, require special equipment.

All of this has led to a lot of unexpected cost. Between the hospital stay, procedures, doctor's visits, medications, new equipment, and accessibility modifications for our home, we have incurred a sizable chunk of debt. Kaylee has been unable to work, and I put my career on pause so I could be more available to act as her caregiver and take her to her many doctor appointments, therapies, and treatments.

This GoFundMe is specifically to help pay for those costs incurred and the loss of income from our changed lives. We are hoping this fundraiser can ease some of the financial stress and help us focus more on getting Kaylee walking again! We appreciate all of the love and support we have received from everyone so far; it's really meant the world to us!
