KCSO K-9 Officer Stainback and Family

Late Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Officer Joseph Stainback V traveled through Georgia with his family in their personal vehicle to enjoy a vacation. Joseph had just swapped out driving with his wife Kimberly just before a horrific accident. A black Ford Expedition entered their travel lane, and Joseph was forced to swerve. As their vehicle left the roadway, his rear tire caught the pavement, sending them down an embankment and into a tree. The driver of the Expedition quickly fled the scene and is thought to be still at large. During the impact, Joseph Stainback V shattered his femur, tore tendons in his hand, and sustained lacerations all over. Joseph V's son, Joseph VI, also had his femur shattered and had a hematoma in his ear, both requiring surgery. Joseph VI had to be airlifted to Augusta University Medical Center from the scene. Their daughter Sophie and a juvenile friend sustained minor injuries. Kimberly suffered a concussion and various other minor injuries.

Officer Stainback is a K9 handler on Adam Shift at KCSO and a United States Army Veteran. Both Stainback V and his son will require additional surgeries for the injuries sustained, and they are asking for all the prayers they can get. Although they were nearly killed, they are incredibly grateful to be together as a family with tons of love and support around them.
