This is Sawyer. He is almost 2 years old, on Sept. 4, 2014 when he was 19 months old he suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and choking on a tiny piece of apple that aspirated into his lung and he went into cardiac arrest. It took paramedics 15 minutes to resuscitate him. We sat with him in PICU and waited for what his outcome might be. After a week waiting on pins and needles, after mri's and eeg's we were told there would be no hope of recovery and we would lose our baby boy. We had made the tough decision to put him in palliative care and basically keep him comfortable and wait for him to pass away. After settling him into his room in the hospital we started to notice little changes here and there with him. He started improving! He was making progress and after 3 months and 20 days in the hospital we were able to take him home on Christmas eve!! He still has a long way to go in his recovery and we don't know how far he will go, but he is on the right path! To be able to care for him at home I, his mother Sheila, had to give up the salon I owned. We would like to get him some treatments that aren't currently covered under our health care that we feel based on research and positive results I have heard from many other parents of children with anoxic injuries that have tried them . unfortunately they can get very pricey and being down to one income makes it almost impossible to pay for ourselves. We want to do whatever we can for our little boy to help give him back a life he can enjoy
