My name is Siphe .
I am a South African born father of 2 beautiful kids living in the UK, and I’m a sports & fitness fanatic.
Parenthood has reminded me how important it is for young people to be equipped with life skills and the charity I am running does exactly that.
Africa is filled with a lot of educated people that still struggle with the most basic needs. Being educated alone no longer gives one any guarantees, not even food or shelter.
The current generation needs meaningful skills. Skills that will give them a fighting chance in life. I want to give these kids that fighting chance, and I want to play a part in empowering them to empower themselves and their families.
It is for this reason that I’ll be running the London Marathon this year! A whole gruelling 42.2 kilometres of terrific highs and lows.
More about KDF...
KDF is a registered non-profit, charitable organisation based in Uganda. It was formed to provide and equip young people from the Eastern region of Uganda with practical, educational and sustainable life skills such as:
Carpentry
Bricklaying
Wielding
Agriculture
Sewing
Plus others, such as sports and music.
Many young people from the poor communities of Uganda are victims of trafficking and modern-day slavery. They risk their lives moving from the villages to the city for the promise of financial security for themselves and their families.
Of those who have aimed to follow this 'dream', over 50% find themselves making the deadly journey across the ocean to the western world where the promises are advertised as if the streets are paved in gold and it's all for the taking.
This rural-to-urban migration has and still is costing many lives and negatively affecting many communities.
This is why, the skills that are taught are aimed at encouraging young people to realise their talents, develop their skills, and use their skills to build up their own communities. Using our build in to build out concept, which is aimed at building up the poorest communities to become self-sufficient and thrive within, we hope to put an end to these issues by showing young people that they can be who they want to be and make a positive difference by tapping into the opportunities within their communities.
Each of our projects takes on its own financial implications and has a step-by-step process to success.
This year we are focusing on our bricklaying project.
We are raising money for resources such as:
Sand
Cement
Tools
Concrete stones
Storage
Machinery
Your contribution towards this project is going to make a long-lasting difference in these young people's lives, their communities and generations to come.
Thank you.
