Hi, my name is Dawn Noey-Webber and I am raising money for my dear friend's son, Spencer Valdivia. Spencer was hospitalized on February 11th with severe leg pain and swelling in his legs and hands. At this time he was in kidney failure and the doctors had no answer as to why. Super Bowl Sunday was an uneventful day and then came Monday. On Monday morning Spencer crashed and was admitted to the ICU. Within hours he was intubated, on dialysis, in kidney failure, liver failure, and hypothermic. The doctors still did not know why. His family was told that he had a 50/50 chance of making it through the night. A couple of hours later and the odds went even lower. At this time, the family was told to say good-bye. A few days later, he was diagnosed with Toxic Shock Syndrome due to Strep A. Spencer spent multiple days on a ventilator with a BP of 40/20, on 4 vasopressors, on dialysis, and several other issues. He continued to surprise all doctors and made it through these very difficult days. Spencer was hospitalized for a total of 26 days and then in a rehab hospital for a total of 19 days.
He is now home and there are countless doctor, PT and OT appointments. Spencer has continued to have a positive outlook and a great attitude throughout his recovery process. However, Spencer is currently wheelchair-bound and is unable to effectively use his hands. His physical condition and inability to work have necessitated that he and his girlfriend move out of their apartment so he can continue his recovery in his parent's home. Spencer is determined to regain the use of his hands and legs and is working hard alongside his therapists and family.
