We are Nā Moku Aupuni o Koʻolau Hui (Nā Moku), a non-profit organization whose members are lineal descendants and current residents of Keʻanae-Wailuanui ahupuaʻa located in the rural area of East Maui. Our traditional values and lifestyle are captured in our larger purpose which is to ensure due respect for the culture of the Kanaka Maoli of these two ahupuaʻa, their social, economic, scientific, literary, charitable, historical, spiritual, educational, and traditional well-being; and enchance, preserve, and protect the quality of life and enviornment for the descendants and tenants of Keʻanae-Wailuanui ahupuaʻa, as it has existed since time immemorial.
We learned in the Summer of 2019, that the 55-year term lease on the nine-acre parcel formerly known as, YMCA Camp Keʻanae, was up for renewal. After surveying our community, Nā Moku
reached out to then-lessee YMCA to explore partnering or co-lessee possibilities. However, the Family YMCA declined to apply for a renewal, leaving Nā Moku as the sole entity interested in applying for the lease. For about a year, Nā Moku held numerous community meetings to gauge our community’s interest and gathered their manaʻo on what should be done with the nine-acre parcel should Nā Moku be successful with obtaining a lease. In June 2020, Nā Moku submitted a lease application and on December 11, 2020, we received an immediate Right-of-Entry and Revocable Permit from the State of Hawaiʻi’s Department of Land and Natural Resources. For two and a half years since then, Nā Moku has mobilized its members and supporters to clean and remove huge amounts of accumulated ʻopala on the grounds and in the
buildings as well as clean and repair restrooms, replace and repair windows and other various
maintenance projects to get to where we need to be today. We are currently striving and working together to restore and beautify what is now rightully named, Keʻanae Uka.
NOW is the time for us to holomua and focus to better position ourselves to host culture
enrichment exchange events. By upgrading the kitchen/dining hall facility with major appliances, we will ensure that our users have access to store perishable food items and have the cooking capabilities needed without having to travel the long, winding road during their stay with us. Given the rural location of Keʻanae Uka, it is paramount that these applicances be acquired for the health and safety of said facilitiy users. At this time, we are in need of
  • commercial grade stove with oven and a flat top
  • 2-door reach-in chill
  • commercial dishwasher
  • large chest freezer
  • commercial ice maker
  • washer and dryer
  • pots, pans, serving utensiles
  • wire racks and stainless tables

Your donation, any amount, is very much appreciated.
