Keaser Center Renovation Fund
Donation protected
This campaign was created at the request of the Board of Directors of the Lloyd Keaser Community Center:
The community of Pumphrey, Maryland is asking for your help in replenishing the reserve fund of the Lloyd Keaser Community Center and building a greater reserve for protection against defaulting on financial obligations in the future. The community has met all obligations of the Center over the near 40 years since the opening.
However, due to a perfect storm of heating, air conditioning, freezer, building and kitchen repairs the reserve funds for those type items were exhausted over the past 3 years. Therefore, fund raising efforts are underway to replenish with one being this Go Fund Me campaign for those who are internet aware.
The current programs housed in the Lloyd Keaser Center are:
YMCA Head Start Program serving 40+ students over the past 30+ years
Senior Nutrition Program
Senior Recreation
Blood Pressure Screening
Summer free meals program for ages 2 - 18

See below for more information on the Center and why the need for funds for those who are not familiar:
In 1976 in celebration of a home grown Olympic Silver Medalist, Lloyd W. Keaser (Butch), the community of Pumphrey, Maryland announced that Pumphrey Elementary school would re-open as a community center bearing the name of Lloyd Keaser. The elementary school had served the community of 300 families for many generations prior to de-segregation in this close-knit African-American community.
The county of Anne Arundel County where the school resided leased the school building to the Pumphrey community with the condition that all operational, maintenance, repair and renovation costs are the total responsibility of the community. Since Lloyd Keaser Community Center was opened in 1979 the community has been successful in raising the funds to remain operational while maintaining a reserve fund. The Lloyd Keaser Community Center was a product of years of efforts by the community in raising the funds to renovate the elementary school and bringing in programs that serve the community once the center opened. The Lloyd Keaser Community Center has and continues to be operated and managed by a completely volunteer effort except for a paid part-time cleaning contractor.
However, as both the building and the community have aged the financial resources required to keep the building open has increased while the financial capacity in the community has remained constant and in some cases decreased.
