Peace and Love! My name is Mekeba Malik I am 20 years of age and am currently raising money to continue my pursuit of higher level dance training as part of my career in dance. Recently, I was invited to participate in WADE Dance Hub’s Summer Intensive on a Full Tuition Scholarship. Back in 2020, I was also accepted and received a full ride scholarship but was unable to participate due to the global pandemic. This year the program has opened back up (with safety precautions) and I’ve been invited back. Even though I did receive a scholarship, I still need help raising funds for room and board and travel. Since 2020 my life has taken quite the turn. Before I had the help of my mother, unfortunately, she made her transition last year, which leaves me to figure things out on my own. I think I’m doing well thus far as since the pandemic I’ve received two Yoga Teacher Certifications (MyVinyasaPractice & BLM Rocket Yoga Global Teacher Training) as well as a Personal Training Certification (National Personal Trining Institute). I have managed to find stable housing for myself and I am currently working two jobs to support myself. Dancing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and from the moment I began training I knew that I could have a career if I believed in my self and worked hard to achieve my goals and dreams. I’m asking for support from my community to help me to be obedient and continue my work. There’s an African Proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with a team. Lord knows it does take a village. I am asking for my community and my village to help me make something of myself. So many young children of color become a statistic because they aren’t aware of possibility and don’t have too many people supporting them. This program is not only an opportunity for me to develop artistically, but this is an opportunity for me to become more of a global citizen and humanitarian and connect with different cultures and identities. It’s also an opportunity for me to learn more about the world and it’s history/future. It is my prayer that you are blessed with the spirit of abundance and charity to find it in yourself to support a young person who is doing the work and being an ambassador for their community and village. Thank you. Asé
