Josh's Bone Marrow Transplant
Donation protected
On August 28, 2023, after a decade long battle with blood and autoimmune disorders, Josh was diagnosed with aplastic anemia and told that he must have a bone marrow transplant to live. Having already undergone many chemotherapy treatments. blood transfusions, and other invasive tests, treatments and procedures, he has been unable to work full-time since 2007. His wife, Nicole, will now need to leave her job as a paralegal to become his full-time caregiver throughout the transplant. Hers is currently the only household employment income. She is a type 1 diabetic with an insulin pump and glucose sensor, and has other major medical conditions requiring thousands of dollars worth of medicines each month to live as well. She will be losing her health insurance and will need to purchase an individual plan, which is very costly.
Once a donor match is found, Josh will be hospitalized at UAB in Birmingham, AL for a minimum of 30-40 days, then require 24/7 care at home for a minimum of 100 days after discharge, though it could be much longer. Because of the intense immunosuppresion required with any transplant, Nicole cannot risk contracting any sort of virus or infection while out in public and bringing it back home to Josh while he heals. This is another reason why she will be forced to leave work and stay at home.
The hope is that enough funds can be raised to allow Nicole to stay by Josh's side for six months without the additional stresses of work, finances, or sickness. Once the ordeal is over, she intends on returning back to work full-time. However, she needs to be able to focus on and take care of both Josh and herself during this time.
All donations will go towards Josh's treatment/care/medications, Nicole's housing/food/parking while staying in Birmingham with him, pet care, health insurance, mortgage, and household expenses.
