Nicaragua Medical Brigade

My name is Keelia Benner and I am a senior at Kutztown University. I have been given the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua in January of 2017 through a non-profit organization called Global Brigades. The purpose of this trip is to provide free medical care to the people that do not have access to it otherwise. Our group will be going on a 10 day voyage where we will be setting up medical and dental clinics, as well as an optometry station. We will also be building sanitary stations, such as latrines with clean, concrete floors, running water and a septic tank. I have set my goal at $1,500 for the cost of my flight and to pay the organization for the food, water and housing I will need there. Anything more than that is tremendously helpful towards the medical supplies that we must bring with us, such as tooth brushes, tooth paste, shampoo and soap, among others. As a pre-med student, I could not imagine a better opportunity to help and heal people than to travel to a place that does not have the small things we take for granted each day.
