Keely Drummond’s fight for her sight.

On Monday August, 31st the daughter of some very dear friends was diagnosed with Uvea Melanoma and more specifically Choroid Melanoma -Keely Drummond was diagnosed with this cancer that sits at the back of the eye at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
This cancer is super rare, only 6 in every million people get it so only about 2000 per year in the United States. Keely’s case is even more rare because less than 1% of the patients that contract this cancer are under 20 years of age, which she falls into. Uvea Melanoma is not genetic or environmental - it just happens.
After spending many hours in the eye hospital a plan was finally fabricated to fit her needs. On Thursday September 3rd, Keely started plaque radiotherapy which lasted 6 days. The procedure involves surgically placing, then removing, a radioactive disk directly onto her eye. Going forward, a few other procedures will take place depending on how her eye responds to the radiation.
This diagnosis will require at least one trip back to Philadelphia in 4 months and possibly more beyond that. She will undergo a lifetime of proactive treatments and check ups with local doctors.
Her Dad, Jeff Drummond (Amber Osweiler) and her Mom, JJ (Scott) Meissner, along with her sister Brady and boyfriend Wyatt Schearer, are her support system as well as many family and friends. Let’s help them help Keely, “Fight For Her Sight!”
