Keep Black & Brew Open!

Dear Community,

It was seventeen years ago this month that Black & Brew first opened its doors, quickly becoming a fixture on East Passyunk Ave in the heart of South Philly. Colleen and Jen DeCesare made their dream come true after spending years in the hospitality industry. Upon opening B&B in 2007, the duo worked endlessly to build their business, team, and family. They raised their two boys while running the café and watched many loyal patrons grow their careers and families as well.

Over the years, the DeCesares poured their energy into their business, the Philadelphia community, and the revitalization of Passyunk Ave. Whether it was supporting local philanthropic initiatives, showcasing local artists work, or giving people opportunities to grow within their own careers, the DeCesares have been truly dedicated to the local community, and the greater Philadelphia area.

Now the team is at a crossroad. Their long-time building lease provider, Passyunk Ave Revitalization Corporation, sent a termination notice on 12/27/23, giving Colleen and Jen 60 days to close up shop. Saddened and surprised by the news, they’ve spent the past few weeks filled with emotion and uncertainty. However, with consistent determination at the heart of what they do, the team knows there is only one real option for the future: Black & Brew must live on. While the brand has been a beautiful fixture on The Avenue for almost two decades, Colleen and Jen are confident that they’ll find a new home for the business. However, they need immediate support for the relocation. While loans are an option, time is not on their side. They need to find a new location, relocate the business, and keep the team employed as they start up in their new space. They will parallel path this effort while continuing to serve the community in B&B’s original home through the end of February but having financial support available now will be a tremendous help throughout this journey.
