Keep Carla here where she is safe and Loved!

I am a neighbor trying to help our dear friend Carla, who is loved dearly by so many people in our community who have had the opportunity to meet this caring, loving, and vibrant woman. She is famous for constantly knitting beautiful hats and willingly giving them away or accepting 10 dollar donations. She is an icon at our local Starbucks. So many people pass through those doors and so many come and visit and greet Carla! It has been wonderful for everyone.

Suddenly, Carla is in a very difficult situation and its possible we lose her presence here in Pierpont if we don't act soon.

What's happening, is that she is being kicked out of her home here in Pierpont and she cant live just anywhere without a little help.

I help Carla with dentist and doctor visits and take her shopping, but alone, she cannot make these things happen. and does not have the resources to afford a room in a home that could provide some basic care that she needs from time to time. She is trying to get help here in Ventura, but unfortunately VC does not offer the assisted living waiver program as in other southern California counties. Carla has been offered a shared room in a house in Reseda. Definitely nothing fancy, but at least they will provide Carla meals and a means to be properly supported for basic needs. The monthly rent well exceeds Carla's social security benefit. She has enough savings combined with her supplemental social security to afford to live there for 5 to 6 months with not a penny extra for living expenses. She will have to rely on LA county to help her enroll in the Assisted Living Waiver program to help her get proper help for her with her existing disabilities. She has to be living in LA county for a minimum of 6 months before applying. If she is forced to wait longer, she will no longer have enough funds to pay her rent.

This is a disheartening and difficult situation for Carla to be thrown into.

We are reaching out to help Carla to afford a room in a loving home here in our community, or to help her make it in finding a safe residence she can afford in L.A. County.
